These programs help to maximize student learning, participation and integration.<\/p>\n<p>ESL\/ELD programs are provided for newcomers from other countries as well as Canadian born students whose first language is a language other than English, or is a variety of English that is significantly different from the variety used for instruction in Ontario schools.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion-1\" class=\"accordion no-js\" role=\"tablist\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t1\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tElementary Schools\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c1\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Classroom\/subject teachers adapt their programs to address English language learners\u2019 different levels of proficiency in English and help these students adjust to a new linguistic, cultural, and educational environment.<\/p>\n<p>As well, most schools have a school-based or itinerant ESL\/ELD teacher available to provide additional program support to English language learners. This support is provided on an in-class and\/or withdrawal basis and on an individual or small group basis.<\/p>\n<p>Classroom\/subject and ESL\/ELD teachers work together to maximize student achievement and integration.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t2\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tSecondary Schools\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c2\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>All English language learners have access to ESL\/ELD program support through placement at one of the six ESL\/ELD Centre schools in 麻豆原创. These schools provide a range of programs for English language learners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English as a Second Language Credit Courses (ESLAO\/BO\/CO\/DO\/EO)<\/li>\n<li>English Literacy Development Credit Courses (ELDAO\/BO\/CO\/DO\/EO)<\/li>\n<li>Adapted Subject Specific Courses for ESL\/ELD (e.g. Science, History, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>ESL\/ELD Resource Periods (non-credit periods for tutorial program support, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>ESL\/ELD Centre Schools<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fmmh.ycdsb.ca\">Father Michael McGivney CA<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/olqwh.ycdsb.ca\">Our Lady Queen of the World CA<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sahe.ycdsb.ca\">Sacred Heart CHS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/seh.ycdsb.ca\">St. Elizabeth CHS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stjo.ycdsb.ca\">St. Joan of Arc CHS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stro.ycdsb.ca\">St. Robert CHS<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t3\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tSecondary Newcomer Reception Centre\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c3\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>This centre, located at the Catholic Education Centre, provides newcomer students with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an initial orientation<\/li>\n<li>assessment in English and Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>equivalency status<\/li>\n<li>placement recommendations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information regarding: Secondary Reception Centre services, assessment\/placement process and required documents, see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ycdsb.ca\/admissions\/newcomer-reception-centre\/\">Admissions \u2013 Secondary Newcomer Reception Centre<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t4\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c4\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tMultilingual Services\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c4\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Through this service, interpreters\/translators are provided to assist board staff in communicating with parents\/guardians and students who have limited English proficiency.<\/p>\n<p>As well, multilingual assessors are available to help board staff, in determining the programming needs of students with limited English proficiency who are experiencing difficulties. Multilingual assessors help gather more information by providing an academic assessment in the first language.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t5\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c5\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t\tSettlement Services\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c5\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Settlement Services through SEPYR (Settlement and Education Partnership in York Region) are provided to all schools for newcomer students and families.<\/p>\n<p>Settlement workers assist with the integration of newcomers into the community by helping families access community resources that support the settlement process.
