We welcome Newcomer families and assess students for the purpose of placement in high school.<\/p>\n<h2>Our Goal<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Welcome the students and family in a safe, caring and faith-filled environment, provide a smooth transition for students into our schools, and lessen the anxiety level of those new or returning to Canada.<\/li>\n<li>Provide effective reception, assessment and placement of Newcomer students at the secondary level.<\/li>\n<li>Support schools in the placement and monitoring of students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Our Services<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"bullet\">\n<li>Family\/student orientation to the Ontario education system and to York Catholic schools<\/li>\n<li>Review of student&#8217;s documentation<\/li>\n<li>English and Mathematics assessment<\/li>\n<li>Recommendation for school &amp; program placement<\/li>\n<li>Recommendation for equivalent high school credits<\/li>\n<li>Referral to additional programs and services, if required (e.g. Multilingual Services, Settlement Services, Adult &amp; Continuing Education, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Placement follow-up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Who Should be Referred to the Reception Centre<\/h2>\n<p>Students who may need support in becoming proficient in English.
